The Shinsegae Network

PAV is backed by Shinsegae Group, a cornerstone of South Korea’s business landscape.

A nighttime street view of a large, historic-style department store building with the illuminated sign ‘Shinsegae’ at the top. The facade features rounded corners, tall windows, and a central entrance marked by a clock above the doorway. Trees, streetlights, and a mostly empty road are visible in the foreground, with modern high‑rise buildings in the background.

Our Foundation of Firsts

At the core of its business, Shinsegae stewards South Korea’s original icons of modern hospitality and retail.

Chosen Hotel, the country's first modern luxury hotel, was established in 1914. Today, it lives on as The Westin Josun Seoul.

An archival sepia-toned photograph of an outdoor café area at the Chosen Hotel. Several people sit at small round tables drinking tea or coffee. Potted plants and tall palm fronds surround the seating area, creating a garden-like atmosphere. Behind the tables, arched doorways and stone walls of the historic hotel building are visible. The scene captures a leisurely social moment from the early 20th century.

Shinsegae Department Store's flagship location began as the Seoul outpost of Mitsukoshi. When it opened in 1930, it became the country's earliest modern retail landmark.

An archival black‑and‑white photograph of the Mitsukoshi Department Store’s Seoul branch, the historic predecessor of today’s Shinsegae flagship. The large, multi‑story building features a curved corner façade, rows of rectangular windows, and decorative architectural details. A flag flies from the rooftop. In the open plaza in front of the building, people walk across the wide, empty space, some in traditional attire and others in early 20th‑century Western clothing. The scene conveys the scale and prominence of the department store during that era.

Our Impact in Figures

A deep yellow canopy extends over the glass entrance doors, which display blue promotional posters. Above the doors, a black sign reads ‘즐거운 쇼핑의 시작, 이마트’ (‘Fun starts here, emart’). The sky is bright with a few scattered clouds.

The structure has a two‑part design: a lower section with a stone-like exterior featuring tall rectangular windows and architectural detailing, and an upper section with a sleek, modern white façade composed of vertical ribbed panels. The Shinsegae I&C logo appears on the upper portion. The sky is clear and bright, creating a clean, minimal backdrop for the building.
