As Chairman of Shinsegae Group — South Korea’s foremost retailer and one of its top-10 conglomerates — Yongjin Chung follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Samsung founder Byung-chul Lee, as custodian of Lee’s entrepreneurial heritage and torchbearer of its trans-Pacific future, with Pacific Alliance Ventures as the principal vehicle driving that vision.

  • Jin (Hyuk Jin) Chung

    CEO & Managing Partner

At Pacific Alliance Ventures, Jin oversees all investment activities and firm operations. He manages key relationships with founders, investors, and global partners while shaping PAV’s long-term strategy and cross-border initiatives with Shinsegae Group.

He also serves as CEO of PK Retail Holdings, Shinsegae’s U.S. holding company with a retail portfolio that includes Bristol Farms, New Seasons Market, Metropolitan Market, Lazy Acres Natural Market, and New Leaf Community Markets. In addition, he is a board member of Shafer Vineyard, the Napa Valley winery acquired by Shinsegae Group.

Before founding PAV, Jin held multiple roles across Shinsegae Group’s headquarters, including financing, M&A, investments, FP&A, and IR. Prior to Shinsegae, he worked as an Investment Banker at Samsung Securities.
Jin graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned his master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering from Columbia University.
