A Letter from the Chairman of Shinsegae Group

by Yongjin Chung

Welcome to PAV, our next quantum leap.

I’ve always believed that business, when stripped to its essence, is a humanistic endeavor — mindful of the past, but purposeful about the future. A case in point: Shinsegae. In 1991, we spun off from Samsung, with just a department store and a hotel at our core. Today, we are the number 1 retailer and a top 10 conglomerate in South Korea.

This reality wasn’t inherited. It was built. Our way of honoring our singular heritage, which traces back to Byung-chul Lee, my grandfather and the founder of both Samsung and Shinsegae, has never been about simply preserving what was given. It’s been about daring to create something greater — a business that spans industries, borders, and generations.

Pacific Alliance Ventures represents our next frontier. It’s a direct, focused charge into innovation — at its source.

We’re not here to admire innovation. We’re here to back it, build with it, and help shape what comes next. To honor our history is to keep moving. It’s the foundation for us to move faster, not slower. Legacy is not a weight. It’s a launchpad.

Welcome to PAV, our next quantum leap.
